there’s a light that shines from the window through the rain as it falls on the park and the cars that shush by singing baby don’t cry to the girl who looks out into the dark on the street she sees the cars speeding up now as they drive through her part of town beneath the swings papers spin in the rain and the wind and the slides are leaning down to the ground whatever she sees, the lights and the trees they melt and run down, down, down they wash away her eyes turning red as she’s hanging her head and the night has come to claim another day for a breath, all her world turns to silver from the corner of her eye down the street there’s a man with his throat in his hand and the collar of his suit turned up high he shrugs down the lane, leans into the rain he’s coming closer now, now, now he’s walking by and down in her heart she feels something start and his face hangs like the moon against the sky all her life she’s wondered would her love be thunder would her heart fall under strikes of silver from a stranger’s spell all her life she’s wanted only to be wanted could her love be wanted by a stranger walking past her window well past her window well walking past her window window past her window walking past her window window well there’s a boy who walks alone past a window there’s a girl who sits alone inside there’s a dream where they meet, a diff’rent day, a diff’rent street a diff’rent world where boys and girls don’t have to hide but that’s not their world and she’s not that girl and he’s a stranger to her and to them all it shouldn’t be wrong but he doesn’t belong and her window may as well be a wall no it shouldn’t be wrong but he doesn’t belong and her window may as well be a wall

whiskey on ice has a nice ring to it vodka and lime, keepin’ time, swing with it but when it comes to one-on-one i’ll take bacardi silver there’s no better boy anywhere in the world we walk hand-in-hand, he’s my man, i’m his girl there’s no place that i’d rather be he’s my bacardi silver from the corner of my eye the sweetest smile lit up the night it changed my life it took my breath away from the corner of my eye the sweetest smile lit up the night it changed my life it took my blues away baby’s got bite but he won’t fight with me he won’t yell he won’t tell, always talks tenderly and when the lights are turned down low he’s my bacardi silver from the corner of my eye the sweetest smile lit up the night it changed my life it took my blues away he rocks me all night, it’s alright fast or slow he raises the bar, i’m the star of his show then i fall asleep in his arms he’s my bacardi silver from the corner of my eye the sweetest smile lit up the night it changed my life it took my breath away from the corner of my eye the sweetest smile lit up the night it changed my life it took my blues away

if you’re a good man take heed it does not matter what you need there are things that need get done and there are wars that need get won so step aside if you’re a nice guy listen up you’re with the big dogs now, lil’ pup go and stand with the other saps when we get done you can have our scraps now run and hide if you’re a good man move on back you don’t belong here on the fast track go find yourself a place to play ‘cause we’ll run you down if you get in our way so make a hole and make it wide oh this world is a hard world there’s no place for men like you to cry in the night for justice and light is such a shameful thing to do and oh this world is a rough world there’s no room for the meek or the mild it’s all teeth and claws and breaking laws and fighting to be the king of all the wild things if you’re a good man step aside

you feel the click of the white bones as they permutate in his hand then they fly and his one cold eye records your fate as they land you thought today was your big day you thought that you had to win but when the cat rolls the dice there’s no hope for little mice and now you’re losing again hey now watch out the night is coming down you gotta pay your dues to walk these avenues ‘cause jackie owns this town so, if you see him coming don’t you look him in the eye for greater men have crumbled and lesser men have died jackie oh, jackie hold your tongue now and let the fear sing from your heart it’s a dark comedy wrapped in a tragedy and jackie plays his part he’ll cut you for a dollar he’ll join you for a shot he’ll love you if you’re willing he’ll take you if you’re not hey now watch out the night is coming down you gotta pay your dues to walk these avenues ‘cause jackie owns this town so, if you see him coming don’t you look him in the eye for greater men have crumbled and lesser men have died

pride the footings for bones the scaffold for skin with a brush she holds it all in hide the hurt in her eyes the bruises and scars from the insults and the empty bottles thrown from the passing cars night an ocean of hands that takes in return for flashes of silver that feed while they burn oh, the night is long and the streetlights are brittle as bone and their eyes their eyes are wrong there’s no love, there’s no flesh, carved from stone oh, her love is strong though the sirens can cut like a knife with a flash it all is gone he couldn’t take her love so he took away her life there’s a boy he’s new in town he saw her fall from the corner of his eye there’s a girl at her windowsill she saw her fall she hangs her head to cry

Silver 03:53
the night is an ocean of broken dreams and hearts that never heal they never learned to love because they knew no love the night is an ocean a silver brine it seeps into your soul it fills some men with light and some with emptiness from the corner of your eye a flash of silver cuts the night a flash of silver takes the light it steals your life away from the corner of your eye a flash of silver cuts the night a flash of silver takes your life away the night is an ocean a boundless sea you’re naked and adrift the waves can lift you up or pull you underneath the night is an ocean of silent glass the sky so black above the moon a silver coin that buys your slavery from the corner of your eye a flash of silver cuts the night a flash of silver takes the light it steals your life away from the corner of your eye a flash of silver cuts the night a flash of silver takes the light it steals your life away sailing sailing over the silver seas

about

This is the music from "Silver," a noir ballet that premiered at the Kansas City Fringe Festival on July 17, 2015. The work is a modern retelling of the Odyssey through dance, with an 8-piece jazz ensemble acting as the Greek chorus.

While the music does not fit neatly into any given genre, it is definitely influenced by mid-twentieth century jazz and blues, and includes flavors of Vince Guaraldi, Philip Glass, and Ennio Morricone.
